GAMEWEEK PREVIEW | GATORS EYE SECOND WEEK MATCHUPS

The Gwent Gators carry on their 2021/22 campaign Saturday 19th of June with the Gators Orange away at Cardiff, and with the Gators Blue playing away at Swansea.

This weekend sees the resumption of the National Flag Football league with Gameday 2 for both Oranges and Blues squads.

INJURY REPORT

C - Huw Walford Remains out for the season baring any major steps in recovery.

WR - Matt Bourke remains week to week with a nagging ankle and thigh injury.

WR - Martin Peareth picked up a calf strain in week one and is a out indefinitely.

RB - Keenan Gibson has an unknown ankle injury, hoping for more information as the week progresses.

With the injury and work bug already biting hard it could mean much reduced squads travelling, with the Oranges hosted by the Cardiff Hurricanes and the Blues hosted by Swansea Hammerheads.

ONES TO WATCH

Gators Orange's QB's will be fearful of the Coyotes Blitz threat; Defensive POTW from Blitzer Florence "Flo" James racked up 6 sacks and a safety in her first gameday, earning her not only top of the sacks list in wales... but the whole UK!

The Orange defense don't get off easily either, with Offensive POTW QB Joe Cotterill firing on all cylinders again with 12 TD's, 9 1XP's and 1 2XP last game-week to face off against.

COACHES CORNER

HC Dale Davies:

"The Oranges first game on the day sees the reigning National champion Hurricanes as their opponents and it’s fair to say it’ll be a stiff examination of the Offense, who spluttered in Game-day 1 and an even stiffer examination of the Defense with Cardiff purported to be at as close to full strength as they can.

It’ll be a tough game regardless but whatever the outcome there will be positives and pride to hopefully take from the game.

The 2nd game sees the Oranges face off against the other current winless team in the division; Cardiff Bay Coyotes. Even this early in the season, the team that loses this game could spend an awful lot of time looking up in the division standings this season.

The Blues first game is against the Swansea Hammerheads, a team who’s Offense is a threat to score on every possession. With an improving Defense and an expanding roster, this will be a tough game for the 2-0 blues squad to open the day with.

The 2nd game for the Blues is against the Gwent Trojans, who started the season 1-1. Another stern test awaits with an experienced Trojans squad who will no doubt be looking to improve their standings.

Good luck Gators!

OC Christopher Bartlett-Legge

"As you can probably guess we want to move on from a very disappointing first game-day offensively.

Although we did have quite a few out of the blue performances such as Jake Williams in the merthyr game and Kira walker holding her own all game we can all agree it wasn't a great day at the office.

For the next game-day we need to just focus on our own game and cut out individual mistakes and that will help us as a whole.

I'd set our goals of just growing individually, especially with the injuries we currently have at essentially our whole starting offense out, it just means we have to make sure we focus on our learning and understanding going forward regardless of the result at the end of each gameday.

DC Mark Studley

"We started out the gate quite sluggish when we lined up but I was proud to see the team rally together to come back so quickly amongst the initial struggles we were facing.

Showing that in itself was a strength of this team and as Captain I hope we can continue that mentality of "never out" throughout the season.

Whats next for us is making sure we start strong, and then we must keep up the consistency, we face strong competition throughout these game-days so we can not start to rest and relax based on what we have done previously."

The results and Game-day reviews will be up over the weekend once the fixtures have taken place.
