TEAM NEWS | Mark Studley appointed Gwent Gators Defensive Co-ordinator.

Gwent Gators are proud to announce that current player and captain Mark Studley has been promoted to Defensive Co-ordinator.

Gwent Gators are proud to announce that current Captain Mark Studley has been promoted up to Defensive Co-ordinator and joins Head Coach Dale Davies' team for the 2020/2021 season.

The move comes before the double header game-days against Swansea Hammerheads. Studley had been chosen to represent the Gators as Captain before the COVID-19 Pandemic hit and brought the season to a halt.

Over the online training sessions and committee meetings it was clear Studley had really adopted and taken on the role in great fashion, much to the pleasure and noting of HC Dale Davies.

"Mark is our current club captain and through the imposed layoff from physical training courtesy of Covid-19, really stepped up and went above and beyond with his efforts with the online training. This, coupled with his passion for Defense and knowledge and experience of the game, provides the Gators with a hopefully seamless transition and can now push forward with a more well rounded coaching setup for everyone involved with the Gators."

With the new role announced, Mark Studley was excited to get started:

"It was a huge privilege to be voted captain. Obviously this season was a slight let down afterwards so to I'm grateful that it will carry over until next season. Everyone captains a team differently, Whitey did a great job last season and I'm enjoying building on that. -

- Being asked to step up to DC is an exciting bonus. The potential of this team is huge and it sits with the coaches to help unlock that so I'm excited to support the guys already coaching in trying to achieve that."

With the announcement comes a change and a transition for second year coach Christopher Bartlett-Legge, who has chosen to transition to the other side of the ball as Offensive Co-ordinator.

HC Dale Davies told us:

"Having the opportunity to refresh the coaching setup is no bad thing and having Chris transitioning to Play on Offense it makes sense that he embraces that changeover fully and brings his experience and knowledge to the “foreign” side of the ball for him, something that will be a challenge but knowing him well enough to believe it will be a success."

The Gwent Gators will play their first match since the Lockdown under the new coaching arrangement in a double header against Swansea Hammerheads.
